About Us

Opportunities come in all shapes and sizes and we strive to create those moments for the under-served. However, we also give those more fortunate, the opportunity to give and help those with less. We have several designations that allow us to access programs and resources that address gaps and needs in our community.

Our mission is to create wealth among low income and other under-served people, including woman, minorities, immigrants, and people of color. We promote grassroots community development by giving people a way to save and obtain affordable credit and financial services, offering a path to homeownership and through small business lending and job creation.

Who we are.

Opportunities, Inc., the 501(C)(3) associated with Opportunities Credit Union, was founded to further the charitable mission of our financial institution. Opportunities Credit Union, also a nonprofit with a 501(C)(14), is a designated Low Income Credit Union and Community Development Financial Institution. These designations are significant. They tell the story of how Opportunities is determined to address the financial needs of Vermonters that other institutions may consider too risky to help.

We provide financial products and services to low income Vermonters, housing insecure Vermonters, single parents, residents re-entering the larger population, people with poor or no credit, immigrants and refugees, and other under-served populations. For the past 30 years, Opportunities has been building a platform, driven by the mission to help these under-served populations, to assure that all Vermonters have access to the same financial services and financing options that allow people to develop their credit and build generational wealth. Opportunities, Inc., and its associated entities believe deeply in the inherent worth and dignity of all people and are working to shape a future where Vermonters no longer have to worry about how to afford safe housing or feed their families so they can focus on building something bigger.
